The Caregiving Years

Six Stages to a Meaningful Journey

Throughout the caregiving journey, which can last from six months to more than 10 years, the role of family caregivers evolves--and so should the services and the support they receive. The Caregiving Years describes the path that caregivers of aging relatives take--from worrying, to helping, to providing full-fledged hands-on care to transitioning out of the role. Most important, the stages--and their related Stumbles and Steadies--provide a map for family caregivers to navigate successfully through the caregiving journey.

Just starting your journey? We'll get you on the right path and help you prepare for your future. In the midst of your journey? We'll show you where you've been, so you can understand where you are and help you prepare for your future. Ending your journey? We'll help you gain perspective on your journey while preparing you for the next phase of your life.

We'll cover two stages each week. Be sure to read The Caregiving Years.

Presenter: Denise Brown, Publisher and Editor, Caregiving.com

Journaling Through The Experience

You feel it--the anger, the guilt, the worry, the anxiety, the frustration. How do you keep those feelings from taking over your life? Documenting your caregiving experience in a journal can be an empowering, releasing experience. We'll help you get started.

Rise 'N Shine

Getting up to start your day may be the hardest part of your day. Call in for a 30-minute session of meditation and inspiration with Denise M. Brown.

Good Night

Ending the day relaxed and refreshed may seem improbable, especially after what you've just faced during the day. A 30-minute session of meditation and relaxation with Denise M. Brown may be just what you need.

The Godspeed Caregiver: Back to Work

Your caregiving journey has ended; you're facing a new chapter in your life. Our three-week session helps you get back in job-search shape. Cost is $30 (plus the cost of long-distance phone calls) for all three classes. You'll gain confidence and skills you need to be in great job search shape.

Offering Online Support Groups:

What To Know, What To Do To Create Online Support Havens

Our online support groups are busiest at night (and, often, in the middle of the night), when a family caregiver finally has the time. That’s one reason online support groups are so effective: They allow access to support 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In this three-week class, we’ll share history of our 11 online support groups, the technology (free!) available to start your own group and how to keep the group a safe haven for all members.

The presenter is Denise Brown, cost for the three-week class is $60 plus the cost of long-distance phone calls.

How to Start and Nurture

A Community-Based Support Group

Tuesdays (March 11, 18 and 25) at 8 p.m. Central

Would you like to support family caregivers in your community? Or, are you a family caregiver looking for support? In three weeks, we'll share how to start a support group, how to be an effective facilitator and how to market and publicize your new group.

The presenter is Denise Brown, cost for the three-week class is $60 plus the cost of long-distance phone calls.
